Police are investigating a mystery consignment seized at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) which arrived in the country aboard two chartered aircraft from Cambodia.

A senior customs officer has been detained in connection with the consignment estimated value of $4.7 million.

The mystery started when local business sources reported the theft of valuable items. These stolen goods are said to have been moved to Cambodia with the aim of having them cleared but they were repulsed and returned to Kenya.

Police are investigating Lee Sung and Thomas Grisiger. Both foreign nationals, Grisiger is allegedly a Swiss lawyer, while Lee Sung is believed to have played a role as an accomplice from Cambodia.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the customs department urged patience, emphasising the necessity of allowing investigators ample time to uncover the truth surrounding the seized consignment.
