‘We have chosen to remain silent’ – Senator Thang’wa provides update on DCI questioning over Gachagua Limuru attack
Kiambu county senator Karungo Thang’wa has updated Kenyans on his grilling at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
Thang’wa had appeared before the DCI for questioning over an attack incident that occurred at a funeral in Limuru, which had been attended by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
Taking to his official X account, the lawmaker who appeared before the DCI alongside former Limuru constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Mwathi, stated that they had chosen to remain silent.
Thang’wa argued that they had declined to provide any information on the attack incident, as they are not obligated to assist the DCI with their investigation.
Thang’wa on DCI experience
He further stated that they had been kept in a boardroom since 8:00 am in the morning until afternoon, but they were really doing nothing as the officers continued to consult among each other on the way forward.
“We have been in a boardroom at DCI HQ on Kiambu Road since 08:00 hours. We chose to exercise our constitutional right to remain silent and have declined to provide any information, as we are not obligated to assist the DCI with their investigation.
“In the meantime, we are doing nothing in this boardroom while the officers engage in extensive consultations outside. We are unaware of whom they are consulting, but I’m sure you can make an educated guess. I am in the company of Peter Mwathi, former MP of Limuru, who also chose to remain silent,” Senator Thang’wa stated.

Gachagua on Limuru attack
On Thursday, November 28, 2024, chaos erupted at a funeral event in Limuru as people were seen throwing chairs in the direction of Gachagua and his entourage before he and other leaders, including Senator Thang’wa and his Nyandarua counterpart, John Methu, left.
In an interview with a local TV station, Gachagua said the events were planned with the target of taking away his life.
“First and foremost, I want to thank God almighty for his grace and mercy that today I am here talking to you.
“The events of Limuru are very sad; a carefully worked-out scheme to take away my life was hatched and carried out. It started with the withdrawal of security officers around me,” Gachagua said on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
