Senator Thang’wa criticises police for ethnic profiling in Kariobangi North church chaos
Kiambu County Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has accused the National Police Service (NPS) of negative ethnicity following the arrest of seven individuals linked to the recent chaos witnessed at the Kariobangi North PCEA Church on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
Chaos in church
On the day, chaos erupted after the police attacked worshippers at the sanctuary during a thanksgiving service organised to celebrate the victory of David Warui, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate who won the Kariobangi North Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in the Thursday, November 27, 2025, by-election.

The service was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who took the opportunity to address the congregants, expressing gratitude for their vote for Warui. Following the teargas incident, the NPS on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, confirmed that it had apprehended persons of interest behind the unrest.
In the particular report, the National Police Service mentioned individuals seemingly hailing from one community, a statement that has sparked mixed reactions.

”Why this obsessive profiling of Luos by manufacturing O-generated lists? Is this genuine policing or a very lazy political setup playing out in national uniform? The next alphabet is K. The National Police Service leadership has now graduated into a full-time department of Kasongoism,” Senator wa Thang’wa took to X on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
After the Kariobangi North Church chaos, Rigathi Gachagua and the government accused one another of hiring goons to settle political scores. However, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has put organised gangs on notice, saying the government will deal with groups working with politicians to disrupt peace, putting the lives of other citizens at risk.

Police badly used
Speaking in a local TV interview on Tuesday night, December 2, 2025, Murkomen said it is worrying that politicians, both in government and the opposition, have developed a habit of working with goons to settle political scores. The CS also revealed that there are instances where police officers are used by politicians for personal interests.

”There are instances where police officers are compromised and used by politicians, and we cannot deny that this is a problem. We must also acknowledge that some goons are being used to undermine law enforcement efforts,” Murkomen said.
The Interior CS said that it will not be business as usual for the politicians working in collaboration with goons, adding that the government will flush out the organised groups to curb future national security threats.
