Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda has slammed a section of opposition-allied politicians for holding on to the impeachment of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for far too long.

Speaking to a local TV station on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Mutinda observed that the people had moved on from the issue and were now focused on other issues of more significance.

Move on

She lamented that the incessant reference to the issue only demonstrates the underlying bitterness and anger within the team.

“When we keep repeating this issue of impeachment for a long time, it shows we have not moved on. We are doing by-elections today across 23 by-elections, and I am wondering why we are still having to dwell on an impeachment that took place over a year ago,” she said.

“It shows that up to date, we have people who are still bitter, agitated, and still angry. People have moved on: we are now engaged in a different conversation on this particular by-election and nothing more than that,” she stated.

The UDA-allied senator also defended the involvement of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in the Mbeere North parliamentary contest.

“There is nothing wrong with Gachagua campaigning for his candidate, and the same applies to Kindiki. He is also entitled to campaign for his candidate. Ruto moved across the country to campaign for his candidate while he was still the DP too,” she added.

Gachagua-Kindiki supremacy battle

Mutinda’s remarks come as the country gears up for the decisive mini-polls on November 27, 2025.

Ahead of the looming political showdown in the country, heralded to provide a marker of the 2027 polls, Kindiki and his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, seem to be engaged in a political supremacy battle.

The pair has already hit the campaign trail by camping at Mbeere North in a rare show of political showmanship, a first-of-its-kind happening just over a year after the former rose to the position of the deputy president after Gachagua’s ouster through impeachment.
