Kenya African National Union (KANU) has officially expelled former Bomet East MP Nick Salat as its Secretary General.

Salat’s expulsion comes three months after the independence party suspended him from their ranks.

The decision to kick out the former lawmaker was arrived at after the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Mombasa.

In a statement by Director of Communications Joseph Towett, the party noted that Salat’s expulsion was recommended by KANU’s National Disciplinary Committee.

Following Salat’s dismissal, Former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi was directed by the National Executive Council to nominate the exiting ex-legislator’s replacement.

“The meeting, chaired by the National Chairman Gideon Moi, resolved that the report of the National Disciplinary Committee recommending the immediate expulsion of Hon. Nick Salat from the position of the Secretary-General of the party on account of gross misconduct and violation of the party constitution is unanimously adopted,” read the statement.

“The NEC mandated the National Chairman Hon. Gideon Moi to propose for deliberations and adoption, suitable individuals to fill the vacant national positions, including that of the Secretary-General, on an interim basis,” the statement read in part.
