Salasya thrown into mourning as close ally passes away
Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya is mourning the demise of his close ally and counsel, Mzee John Sembe.
Sharing the heartbreaking news via X on Monday, September 22, 2025, Salasya described the late as a man of dignity and intelligence.
”This sad morning, I have lost my close friend, my elder and counsel, Mzee John Sembe. Mzee Sembe has been my cornerstone elder who has always sat me down, anytime I go wrong and gives me the words of wisdom in leadership. He believed in my leadership as a young person and even during the voting day, he was awake at 3 am to walk slowly to the polling station to vote for me,” Salasya said in part.
The vocal legislator also revealed that the deceased played a pivotal role in his political career as a young leader in the present August House.

”He, with other elders, gave me a traditional sword of leadership because he believed leadership is spiritual and traditional. I can say he was my best. Mzee Sembe was a strong man of dignity, a man of his own intelligence and understanding, a man with a straight heart, a man who wanted to see young people up there, a man who doesn’t tolerate nonsense and a man who was always monitoring my leadership to see no mistake in the leadership even in his couch,” Salasya added.

The lawmaker also shared the grief with the friends and family of the departed. ”Indeed, I have lost a mentor. He blessed my leadership as an elder, and today I have received sad news that he has rested. I condole with the family, friends and pray that God rest his soul in eternal peace,” Peter Salasya said.
Recently, Peter Salasya has asked the Kenyan youth to register as voters ahead of the 2027 general election. The MP took to X on Monday, September 15, 2025, where he asserted that the voice of the youth in the country matters, further saying the country’s future is in the hands of its young people.
Commanding a huge population in the country, the legislator said every vote of a young person counts, even as he also eyes the presidency in 2027.
”695 days to go until election day! Make sure you’re registered to vote — every vote counts, every voice matters. Together, we shape the future we deserve as the youth of this country,” the Mumias East MP said.
