Salasya rejects reforms without justice for Ojwang’

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has issued a fiery rebuke to the government’s newly announced police reforms, insisting they are meaningless until those responsible for the death of blogger Albert Ojwang face justice.
As the nation grapples with outrage over Ojwang’s death in police custody, Salasya’s bold statements on his X account have ignited a fresh wave of public debate.
In a post on his official X account dated June 16, 2025, Salasya minced no words, stating, “No matter how many reforms you promise, if those responsible for #AlbertOjwang’s killing still walk free, we won’t back down.”

MP’s remarks come amid Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s statement on Monday, June 16, 2025, where he announced a raft of reforms aimed at transforming the National Police Service (NPS) and restoring public confidence in law enforcement in the wake of the brutal murder of blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang’.
Speaking from Harambee House during a national address on the state of security in the country, Murkomen said the government is committed to ensuring justice and accountability in the wake of growing concerns over police conduct. He outlined several key interventions to address systemic issues within the police service.
Among the measures announced is the mandatory installation of CCTV surveillance systems in all 1,209 police stations across the country. The Interior CS stated that each station must have a fully functional system, complete with external backup, within the next two years.
However, Salasya noted with concern that the reforms would mean nothing to the public if those responsible for the death of Ojwang’ are still walking freely with no apprehension nor accountability to the ongoing matter.
In his earlier post, Salasya demanded the arrest of Central Police Deputy Officer Commanding Station Police (OCS) Samuel Nga’anga in the murder of Ojwang.
“I am asking, on behalf of the people I represent: Why is it that the Deputy OCS and the two officers who took the body of the late Albert to Mbagathi Hospital are not in court alongside the OCS today?” Read part of his Xpost.
Salasya has stated that everyone involved in the case should be presented in court and face the law.
