Salasya questions narrative on accident that killed Cyrus Jirongo
Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has ruled out an accident as the cause of the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo.
Through his X handle on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Salasya shared photos of the wreckage of Jirongo’s car and the bus involved in the crash, claiming the incident did not add up.
Salasya alleged that what has been presented to the public as a road accident was a “script”, arguing that the damage pattern did not match a genuine head-on collision.
“I have analysed the impact, and this scriptwriter forgot to remember that this impact on a Mercedes machine was too heavy and could have brought down the entire bus if it were a real head-on collision,” Salasya claimed.

Salasya questions the crash narrative
The legislator insisted that the visible damage contradicted the official explanation, saying the impact on the bus was minimal compared to what he expected in a head-on crash.
“From this impact, it tells me that if it were a head-on collision, there would be serious damage at the bumper of the Climax bus. They forget that this is a Mercedes machine,” he said.
Salasya further alleged foul play, claiming the damage suggested external interference rather than a traffic accident.
“Hapa ni nyundo ilifanya kazi kwa hii gari. I expect to see burst and complete tear of both tyres of the bus and the Mercedes, but I don’t see this,” he added.
He concluded his remarks by alleging a cover-up.
“This analysis, even a blind person can see this was a cover-up. We should now start asking why,” Salasya stated.

Elsewhere, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has also questioned gaps around Cyrus Jirongo’s death.
DCI releases findings
Salasya’s comments came just hours after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) released new details into the fatal crash, including CCTV footage showing Jirongo’s final movements before the collision.
According to the DCI, the accident occurred on the night of December 13, 2025, at around 2:19am in the Karai area along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway. Detectives said Jirongo’s vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a Climax Company Ltd passenger bus.

CCTV footage obtained from a nearby petrol station reportedly shows Jirongo driving into the station moments before the crash, exiting without refuelling, and rejoining the highway seconds before the bus rammed into his vehicle.
The bus driver, identified as Tyrus Kamau Githinji, has been questioned and released on cash bail, with investigations ongoing into the offence of causing death by dangerous driving.
As forensic analysis continues and investigators reconstruct Jirongo’s final moments, Salasya’s claims have added to the growing public debate.
