Governor Sakaja nominated to ‘Young Gl0bal Leaders’ forum

Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has been nominated by the World Economic Forum to be one among 109 Young Gl0bal Leaders from around the world.

Young Global Leaders, drawn from over 90 countries, are professionals and leaders engaged in activities that aim to improve the state of the world.

“From courageous journalists uncovering the most critical political and human rights issues of our time to savvy entrepreneurs transforming the way we work with technology, this year’s class is packed with brilliant minds and passionate leaders from business, civil society, academia, and government,” World Economic Forum said in a statement.

Sakaja has been nominated alongside Roselyne Chambrier, the Chief Executive Officer, Arise Integrated Industrial Platforms (Arise IIP) in Côte d’Ivoire and Abdigani Diriye, the Co-Founder, Bloom Financial Technologies, Kenya.

Others nominated include Kow Abaka Essuman, the Legal Counsel to the President, Office of the President of Ghana, Peace Hyde, a creator and executive producer for Netflix Ghana, Aïssata Lam, the Director General, Investment Promotion Agency of Mauritania, Vukosi Marivate, Chair of Data Science, Associate Professor of Computer Science, University of Pretoria, South Africa and Oluseun Onigbinde, Co-Founder and Global Director, Budgit, Inc., Nigeria.

Chief Executive Officer, Angolan Stock Exchange, Angola Mr Walter Pacheco, Uche Pedro Founder, BellaNaija, Nigeria, Tokini Peterside-Schwebig, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer, ART X Collective, Nigeria and Gregory Rockson, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, mPharma, Ghana, have also been nominated to the list.

Sakaja assumed his role as the Governor of Nairobi County in August 2022. Previously as a senator, he served as the vice chairperson of the committee on National Security, Defense and Foreign Relations, a standing committee on regional integration, national security and foreign relations, international relations, agreements, treaties and conventions.

Sakaja was awarded the African Achievers Award Change- Maker of the Year in 2016 in recognition of his leadership skills and youth empowerment in Kenya.

The Young Global Leaders forum was created in 2014 by Klaus Schwab, the Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum.

The forum was aimed at helping the world meet increasingly complex and interdependent problems.

“His vision was to create a proactive multistakeholder community of the world’s next-generation leaders to inform and influence decision-making and mobilize transformation. Through the Forum of Young Global Leaders, Klaus Schwab envisioned facilitating earnest dialogue and friendships across cultures to bridge divides, fostering fresh thinking and dynamic new ways of collaboration to shape a more positive, peaceful and prosperous society,” the forum says on its website.
