Saboti MP Caleb Amisi begs Ruto to also cancel housing levy and university funding model
Soboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has pleaded with President William Ruto to also nullify the housing levy and the new university funding model after the cancellation of two major infrastructure deals involving the Adani group.
In a statement via his X account, on Thursday, November 21, 2024, Amisi told Ruto that Kenyans have welcomed his decision to cancel the highly debated Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Kenya Energy Transmitted Company (KETRACO) deal with Adani.
“Dear Mr. President, you can see how Kenyans have put a sigh of relief. That is how simple it is to govern. Listening to Kenyans,” he wrote.
Amisi’s requests
The vocal parliamentarian went ahead to ask the Head of State to relook at the increased contribution of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) by Kenyans and also transparency at the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), improve the health sector and pay doctors.
Apart from NSSF and SHIF, he requested Ruto to cancel the housing levy tax which is burdening salaried Kenyans, in addition, Amisi asked him to salvage the education sector by nullifying the new university funding model and paying teachers and lecturers.
“Now, while at it relook at #NSSF increased contributions. #SHIF transparency #HousingLevy cancel it. Cancel the new university funding model reign into the education sector, it is collapsing cavitation or whatever. Pay attention to lecturers, teachers, and doctors,” he requested.
The Saboti parliamentarian further advised the Head of State not to promise what he can not fulfil but instead be open and tell the truth to Kenyans they will understand him.
In addition, Amisi noted that Ruto is burdening taxpayers with his numerous movements within and out side the country and asked him to avoid unnecessary trips.
“Don’t promise what can not be done. Just say the government has no money, and Kenya will understand. Avoid unnecessary trips, your movement within and out of the country is costly to taxpayers,” Amisi said.
While commending Ruto’s political game, the ODM lawmaker told Ruto to arrest corrupt leaders serving in public offices.
“Arrest corrupt leaders including CS, PS, Governors, MPs, CEOs, DGs, etc. You are a good politician but management of a modern government kidogo imekulemea. Appoint a technocrat to fill in this. We have no spare nation!” he added.
