President William Ruto’s mother, Sarah Cherono Cheruiyot, was among 505 landowners, who received title deeds from the Uasin Gishu County government on Thursday, June 22, 2023.

The beneficiaries, drawn from Hill School, Kuinet, and Maili Nne, settled in the areas under the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Programme (KISIP) and have been struggling to obtain the documents for the last 30 years.

Presiding over the ceremony, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim said the title deeds will help mitigate risks associated with land disputes in the populous county.

“By providing authentic documentation of land ownership, we aim to mitigate the risk of land disputes and foster harmonious coexistence among community members besides empowering them to make better use of their property,” the county boss said.

On her part, Mama Sarah thanked the county leadership for the initiative and urged locals to invest in farming to improve their socio-economic status.

“Land is an asset that if properly invested in, can make a huge difference to society. I call on all Kenyans to use their land properly for their prosperity and that of future generations,” Mama Sarah said.

Other leaders present were County Commissioner Dr Eddyson Nyale, Members of the County Assembly led by their speaker Philip Muigei among other hosts of leaders.
