Ruto unveils Ksh4.5B plan for 10 mother-and-child hospitals across 9 counties
President William Ruto has announced a major plan aimed at improving maternal and newborn healthcare across nine counties in the country.
In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the president outlined a new partnership that seeks to directly address gaps in access to specialised care for mothers and infants, especially in regions where such services remain limited or overstretched.
The president explained the foundation of the initiative, pointing to a partnership that is expected to play a key role in strengthening healthcare systems and ensuring that mothers and newborns receive the attention and protection they need during critical moments.
“We have partnered with AMSONS Group to strengthen maternal and newborn healthcare to safeguard the lives of mothers and children,” the statement reads.

The president went further to explain the financial commitment behind the project and the counties expected to benefit, painting a picture of a nationwide effort to expand access to specialised healthcare services.
“Through this strategic partnership, AMSONS Group is investing KSh4.5 billion in grants for the construction of 10 mother-and-child hospitals in Nairobi, Kwale, Kisumu, Uasin Gishu, West Pokot, Mombasa, Garissa, Embu and Nakuru counties,” the statement reads.
Ruto further broke down what these hospitals will look like, stating that the antenatal section, a maternal ICU, labour, delivery and recovery sections, and two operating tables, alongside other essential equipment.

The president went further to reveal that discussions are already underway to expand the project even further and reach more communities that currently struggle with access to healthcare services.
“We are also exploring additional partnerships to deliver a further 14 hospitals, expanding access to underserved regions across the country,” the statement reads.
