Ruto underscores strong Kenya-Ghana ties in farewell to High Commissioner
President William Ruto has reaffirmed the strength of the diplomatic relationship between Kenya and Ghana while bidding farewell to outgoing Ghana High Commissioner Damptey Bediako Asare, who has completed his tour of duty in Nairobi.
In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Ruto traced the foundation of the Kenya-Ghana diplomatic ties, emphasising the historical depth and contemporary strength of bilateral relations.
“Kenya-Ghana diplomatic relations are strong, cordial and dynamic, dating back to the pre-independence days and the enduring partnership between the founding fathers of our two nations,” he wrote.
Farewell message
In his farewell message to the outgoing High Commissioner, Ruto acknowledged Asare’s service and wished him success in future endeavours.
“Bid farewell to Ghana High Commissioner to Kenya, Damptey Bediako Asare, who has completed his tour of duty. Wished him well in his next national assignment,” he added.
Frequent diplomatic exchanges
The head of state pointed out that this bilateral cooperation has been reinforced by at least five reciprocal State Visits and strengthened further by expanding air links through the national airline.
He disclosed that plans are at an advanced stage to make Accra the airline’s hub in West Africa, a move expected to deepen connectivity and trade between the two nations.
“Ties between our two peoples have been boosted by five State Visits on both sides, and the expanding air links through Kenya Airways and the advanced plans to make Accra our airline’s hub in West Africa,” he added.

Ruto outlined the broad scope of cooperation between Kenya and Ghana across various sectors, underlining the comprehensive nature of their partnership.
“Our cooperation in trade and investment, tourism, education, and science and technology, among others, is underwritten by various memoranda of understanding,” he stated.
