Deputy President William Ruto yesterday criticised the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), saying its architects were up to mischief.
At the start of his three-day tour of ODM leader Raila Odinga’s backyard, Ruto claimed BBI was not inspired by goodwill, but personal interests.
He said the document was aimed at creating an imperial President, which the 2010 Constitution had done away with.
“What was the rationale of creating the position of president with
extra powers and appointing cabinet ministers from among Members of Parliament?” he posed.
Ruto claimed BBI had stopped the development agenda Jubilee had in
since 2013, citing a number of economic stimulus programmes.
“First, it was illegal and unconstitutional. Thank God it ended up
with a null and void verdict in court,” he said.
Ruto said when the Jubilee government took power in 2013, the government increased electricity connectivity to households in Kisumu to 8.5 million from 8.2 million households.
Similarly, the number of Technical training colleges in Kisumu
County had increased by an additional three to the previous Ramogi
Institute of Advanced Technology (Riat) and the Kisumu National
Polytechnic.
The DP vowed to commit Sh100 billion in projects that will create
more wealth and employment to the people in his first 100 days if he wins
He reiterated his clarion call to re-engineer the country’s politics and
fight negative ethnicity
