Ruto, Speakers skip Labour Day celebrations
Deputy President William Ruto and the top Kenya Kwanza leadership, together with Speakers of both Houses of Parliament were today Sunday, May 1 conspicuously absent at Nyayo Stadium during the National Labour Day Celebrations.
Ruto has always been part of national celebrations together with his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Ruto meets Bomet leaders
On his social media pages, Ruto, who was expected to join his boss, indicated that he was meeting newly nominated leaders from Bomet Count.
“We salute the leadership of Bomet for its unity and commitment to deliver victory for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the August polls. Our line-up in the County is now complete,” he posted on Twitter.
The UDA flag-bearers at the meeting included Hillary Barchok (Governor), MPs Brighton Yegon (Konoin), Richard Yegon (Bomet East), Richard Kilel (Bomet Central), Linet Chepkorir “Toto” (Bomet), Francis Sigei (Sotik), Paul Bii (Chepalungu) and Hillary Sigei (Senator).
By virtue of the offices they hold, House Speakers Kenneth Lusaka (Senate) and Justin Muturi have also been constantly present over the years in all national fetes.
However, Speaker Lusaka chose to join Kenya Kwanza Co-principal and Ford Kenya Party leader Moses Wetang’ula, who had convened a meeting with party delegates from Bungoma County in Kaduyi.
Muturi on the other hand attended a homecoming ceremony of Nandi Governor Stephen Sang alongside Musalia Mudavadi, another Kenya Kwanza Co-principal.
The Senate Speaker in March officially declared that he will seek to unseat Bungoma Governor Wafula Wangamati in the coming polls.
Lusaka was the first governor of Bungoma County in 2013.
