President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Kenya’s education sector.

Ruto cited significant increases in funding, large-scale teacher recruitment, and major infrastructural developments as key pillars of the country’s journey toward a globally competitive future.

Expanded education investment

Speaking during the opening of Yussuf Haji Girls Secondary School in Masalani, Garissa County, on Saturday, November 29, 2025, President Ruto revealed that the national education budget had risen from Ksh690 billion in 2024 to Ksh702 billion in 2025, a deliberate move aimed at strengthening learning institutions and improving the quality of education across the country.

The President noted that the increased investment has already delivered tangible results. These include the improvement of school infrastructure nationwide, the recruitment of 100,000 new teachers, and expanded financial support for colleges and universities.

According to the Head of State, these efforts are designed to boost learning outcomes as well as prepare the next generation for the demands of a modern, globally competitive economy.

“Our goal is to equip our people, our greatest resource, with the highest quality skills to build the human capital necessary to move Kenya towards first-world status,” President Ruto said. “Every child, in every part of the country, deserves quality education that empowers them to thrive in life.” He added.

During his visit, the President officially opened Yussuf Haji Girls Secondary School, a new institution set to expand access to education for girls in the region. He also handed over a new school bus, a move expected to ease transportation challenges for students, especially those who travel long distances.

In addition, President Ruto laid the foundation stone for Phase II of the school’s development, signalling continued government support for expanding facilities and ensuring the institution meets growing demand.

Moving Kenya forward

Meanwhile, as President William Ruto commits to moving Kenya from third-world to first-world status, he recently hosted Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for dinner at State House, Nairobi, on Sunday night, November 23, 2025, amid his two-day official visit to the country.

Ibrahim jetted into the country on Sunday, November 23, 2025, and was received by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

”Drawing from this inspiration, we are rolling out a KSh5 trillion plan to invest in our people, boost agriculture through large-scale irrigation, build better roads and energy systems, and open real opportunities across the country. This is a clear and practical path to help Kenya become a first-world economy that lifts our people from poverty and creates wealth for shared prosperity,” William Ruto commented on Anwar Ibrahim’s visit.
