Ruto reveals details of his meeting with AUC Chairperson

President William Ruto has revealed what he discussed with the African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat.

Taking to his official X account on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, Ruto stated that he met with the outgoing AUC chairperson in Kilgoris, Narok County.

During the meeting, Ruto says they conversed about the implementation of reforms at the African Union’s structure to make it more effective and efficient in pursuing Africa’s interests.

The head of state further revealed that they also deliberated on the upcoming election of the AUC Chairperson a position in which former Kenya’s Prime Minister Raila Odinga is among the contestants.

“We are implementing reforms at the African Union’s structure to make it more effective and efficient in pursuing the continent’s interests. In Kilgoris, Narok County met the African Union Commission Chairperson @AUC_MoussaFaki and discussed, among other things, AU reforms and the upcoming election of the AUC Chairperson, a post that Former Prime Minister @RailaOdinga is running for,” Ruto revealed.

Ruto on Raila’s AUC bid

Ruto, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, during the opening of the 14th East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games in Mombasa, urged the East Africans to support the Kenyan candidate as he believes he is the right person to take the continent to the next level.

“We have an opportunity as East Africa to produce the leadership of the African Union. This time round, it is the opportunity for East Africa to produce the chair of the African Union,” Ruto said.

“And in our midst, we have a solid candidate, a man with tremendous experience, a Pan-Africanist who can take this continent to the next level. I ask you as the East Africans that we stand united behind the candidature of our former Prime Minister, the honorable Raila Amolo Odinga, so that he can provide the leadership of this continent that is so much desirable to take the continent to the next level.”

Raila’s vision for Africa

Raila, on Friday, November 8, 2024, officially unveiled his vision for Africa Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Speaking on his vision for Africa, Raila indicated that his leadership would be characterised by a transformative agenda which will seek to restore Africa’s glory in the global stage.

“My leadership will be pegged on the dreams of our forefathers who expected that by now, Africa would roar in one united voice.We will not put anything in the agenda if we know it will not be implemented,” he revealed.

Raila decried the travel restrictions in the continent, noting that some of the policies had made it difficult for Africans to travel in their own land, but had given foreigners sweeping liberties from the bureaucracies of travel.

Raila has been traversing Africa in search of support and has also outlined his vision for the continent should he be elected on February 25, 2025.
