President William Ruto has reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicate corruption, stressing that the vice had inhibited the country from making major developmental strides.

Speaking during the installation of Bishop John Arap Lelei in Kapsabet, Nandi County on Saturday August 30, 2025, Ruto stated that no individual will be spared in the fight against the vice.

No one to be spared

“We also have to devote ourselves to eradicating corruption in this nation. We have to come together and stand on the same side. It’s the reason why we said we have to eliminate tribalism and politics of division. We also have to devote ourselves to abolishing corruption. It’s why I have said that there will be no rank, office, title, region, or any other differentiation regarding matters in dealing with corruption,” he stated.

The president further highlighted the recent revocation of the licenses of several healthcare providers, stating that the government would also follow up to ensure the recovery of money stolen from people.

Healthcare

“On healthcare, yesterday we revoked licenses of 1000 hospitals for stealing public money. We will also follow up and ensure they refund that money. Since there is nothing as criminal and worse as stealing from the sick,’ he added.

The president further urged the church and private sector to close ranks and decisively aid the fight against corruption.

“I am glad the church and the public and private sectors are united in standing together as a nation to fight corruption. As citizens we have a duty to move this country forwards, and we have to take part in the opportunity to take part in moving this nation forwards,” he added.

EACC summons

Ruto’s sentiments come a day after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission issued summons to 12 persons to appear before it on Monday, September 2025.

In a presser signed by the commission’s CEO, Abdi Mahmoud, on Friday, August 29, 2025, the commission directed Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok and former Bungoma Governor Wangamati to appear before the commission’s headquarters at the Integrity Centre on Monday, September 1, 2025.

The anti-graft body confirmed the summons had been issued upon the receipt of consent from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution to prefer charges against the two.

Others on the summons list were Michael Simiyu Wangamati, Edward Barasa Wangamati, and Nicholas Wangamati.

Edward Maaya Makhanu, Sandra Soita Nasambu, Juma Swaleh Juma, Jimmy Wekesa Barasa, and Joseph Wanyonyi Khaemba
