Ruto: Raila will take Africa to the next level

By , December 7, 2024

President William Ruto has continued to campaign for Raila Odinga in his bid to win the African Union Commission (AUC) chair.

Ruto made the comments of support when he opened the 14th East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games in Mombasa on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

He urged the East Africans to support the Kenyan candidate as he believes he is the right person to take the continent to the next level.

“We have an opportunity as East Africa to produce the leadership of the African Union. This time round, it is the opportunity for East Africa to produce the chair of the African Union.

“And in our midst, we have a solid candidate, a man with tremendous experience, a Pan-Africanist who can take this continent to the next level. I ask you as the East Africans that we stand united behind the candidature of our former Prime Minister, the honorable Raila Amolo Odinga, so that he can provide the leadership of this continent that is so much desirable to take the continent to the next level,” Ruto said.

Raila’s candidacy has attracted support and opposition alike. Although some Kenyans have expressed their opposition, especially on the social media platforms, his vocal supporters have come out to support the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader.

Passionate support

In a passionate statement, Kasmuel McOure, a political activist, explained why Africa needs Raila’s leadership at this moment.

“He envisions a continent where trade routes are open, civil unrest is quelled, and Africa reclaims her sovereignty from the chains of foreign exploitation. This vision is not a mere ideal; it is a lifelong commitment, one that has been consistently reflected in his actions and principles.

“A vision that resonates from the savannahs of the Mara to the shores of Cape Town, from the markets of Lagos to the streets of Addis Ababa.

“He is a man whose vision for Africa is not confined to today or tomorrow, but for generations to come. A visionary leader who, against all odds, has always prioritized the people over power—an attribute Africa desperately needs at this pivotal moment.

“Africa needs a leader who embodies wisdom, courage, and an unwavering belief in our collective destiny. A son of the soil, forged in the fires of struggle, and ready to lead us toward a brighter, united future,” McOure said in a statement penned on Friday, December 6, 2024.
