‘Niliona nipitie nijue kama nitaenda kutafuta pesa ingine ya kukamilisha stadium’ – Ruto tells Bungoma residents
President William Ruto has revealed that he made a stop in Bungoma County to check on the progress of Masinde Muliro Stadium and assess whether additional funds will be required for its completion before he departs the country.
Speaking at the Anglican Church of Kenya in Bungoma, the head of state referred to the region as his home, emphasizing the deep-rooted connection he shares with the people of Bungoma.
Ruto calls Bungoma home
“Nikiwa hapa Bungoma niko nyumbani kabisa. Hii ni county ya nyumbani kwa sababu tuko na uhusiano na urafiki wa miaka nyingi. Na tuko na mambo mengi tunafanya na nyinyi ya maendeleo ya taifa leo na vilele hapa Bungoma. (While here in Bungoma, I am truly at home. This is a home county for me because we have a long-standing relationship and friendship of many years. We have many ongoing projects together with you for the development of the nation today, as well as here in Bungoma),” Ruto stated.
Ruto, who last visited Bungoma in June ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations, mentioned that he returned to ensure he had a clear understanding of the stadium’s progress to determine if more funds are needed.
“ Niliona kwa sababu leo baadaye nitasafiri kuenda nje ya nchi, nikaona kuna kazi niliacha hapa ya ikifanyika ya stadium. Nikaona nipitie hapo ndio nijue kama nitaenda kutafuta pesa ingine ya kumalisha hio stadium na mambo mengi ambao inahusiana na maendeleo ya sehemu hii. (I realized that since I will be traveling abroad later today, I should check on the work I left ongoing at the stadium. I decided to pass by and see if I will need to secure additional funds to complete the stadium and other related development projects in this area),” he said.
During the Madaraka Day celebrations in June, Ruto committed to the timely completion of the Masinde Muliro Stadium, ensuring that it becomes fully functional for the benefit of the county’s residents.
“This stadium, which has been under construction for the past five years or so, was left unfinished in some areas. I want to commit to the people of Bungoma that the contractor will not leave the site. The people in charge, especially the military officers overseeing the project, will remain here until this stadium is completed and made available for the people of this county and all Kenyans,” he affirmed.
Ruto assurance
Ruto further assured Bungoma residents that the stadium would be equipped with a roof to protect spectators from the sun.
“I know that there is plenty of sun elsewhere (on the terraces). I just want to promise you that this will be the last time that you will be exposed to the sun. The next time you come to this stadium, it will be properly covered,” Ruto remarked.
