Ruto leads nation in mourning Kimani Ichung’wah’s father

President William Ruto has on Friday, September 5, 2025, led the country in mourning the death of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father of Kikuyu MP and Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah.

In his condolence message, President Ruto described Mzee Ngugi as “an industrious and astute businessman and one of the brains that founded Kikuyu Town.” He added that the late patriarch had left behind a lasting mark through his dedication to community service.

“Mzee touched many lives through his many transformative initiatives that supported the vulnerable. His legacy will live on. Rest in peace, Mzee,” the President posted.

A life of remarkable impact

Mzee Ngugi’s death was formally announced by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who said the 105-year-old patriarch passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Kikuyu home.

In his tribute, Speaker Wetang’ula hailed Ngugi’s extraordinary journey, noting that he had lived more than a century marked by resilience and contribution to society.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the Kikuyu MP and Leader of Majority, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, following the passing of their patriarch, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi. As we celebrate a life well lived, we pray that his lasting impact will continue to be felt and his legacy cherished for generations to come,” he said.

Wetang’ula added that the memories of Ngugi’s life, spanning over 100 years, would bring comfort to his family and the community he nurtured.
