Ruto launches LPG programme in schools to curb carbon emissions
President William Ruto on Monday, December 16, 2024, commissioned the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Programme for public learning institutions.
The launch took place at the Jamhuri High School in Nairobi.
Taking to his official X account shortly after the event, the head of state said that his administration is trying to limit the consumption of traditional polluting fuel like firewood and charcoal by accelerating access to clean cooking.

According to President Ruto, the move will cut carbon emissions, check the damage of the country’s environment and make Kenya’s dream to grow 15 billion trees by 2032 come to reality.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo who was among the state officers that accompanied the President to the launch stated that the government is intensifying its efforts to combat illicit trade in fuel products, ensuring that only safe and compliant LPG reaches the public.

“The initiative marks a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to clean energy and cooking solutions in public institutions, reducing dependence on traditional fuels that harm both health and the environment. In line with this, the government is intensifying its efforts to combat illicit trade in fuel products, ensuring that only safe and compliant LPG reaches the public,” PS Omollo stated.
