‘Wale watu wako karibu na wewe wanakupoteza’ – Wajackoyah tells President Ruto
Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah has weighed in on the backlash regarding the abductions reported in the country, shifting the blame to President William Ruto’s close allies.
In an interview with K24 TV on Monday, January 13, 2025, Wajackoyah said that Ruto’s closest allies are the ones causing fear in the nation by releasing statements on the abduction cases.
“Serikali yenyewe inasema haijui nani wanashika hawa majamaa. Moses Kuria akitoka huko anasema mimi sitaki namna hiyo, Muturi mwenyewe anasema hivyo. Serikali yenyewe inajicontradict. Watoto wameshikwa wengine wameuawa,” he said.
He went on to question the position of vocal leaders close to the president asking them if they would have had the same stance if their own children had been the ones who had been abducted.
“I’m asking, if Farouk’s child had been abducted, how would he have felt? If Sudi’s child had been abducted how would he have felt? If Atwoli’s child would have been abducted, how would he have felt? The Bible says, don’t do to others what you don’t expect to be done to you, but this is what they’re doing,” he added.
The former presidential aspirant further faulted Azimio allied Members of Parliament such as Makadara MP George Aladwa over his recent praises on the government while staying quiet on the abduction cases.
He called on Ruto’s close allies such as Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Kapsaret Constituency MP Oscar Sudi, Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli, President Ruto’s aide and long-time ally Farouk Kibet to tell Kenyans the truth about what is happening in the country.
“Waheshimiwa wengine wamepewa uwaziri sasa kazi yao ni kuimba ‘Tumefika.’ Maswali ya Wakenya hiyo si kitu. Why can’t you tell the people that the president is not doing a good job, he’s doing what he can do. Wale amabao wako karibu na yeye (Ruto) wanampoteza. The president can still do better,” he stated.
Wajackoyah’s statement comes after Ruto’s close allies have been leading sustained attacks on the government’s critics.
Ruto’s allies speak
Speaking on Sunday, January 12, 2025, Sudi strongly condemned critics saying the president was going nowhere.
He chided Kenyan youths for creating offensive images of the president in caskets, saying the unfortunate fate they wish for the Head of State will befall them instead.
“Hawa watu wanatuambia Ruto must go; nataka kuwaambia watupatie nafasi; tuongee 2027, na mjipange; wacha tu kuongea kwa mtandao. Kwanza wewe mwenye ulichora Ruto utakufa mbele yake na sisi wote; wewe ndio utatangulia kwa hio kaburi,” Sudi said.
Ruto’s promise
In his New Year’s statement in January 2025, President Ruto promised to address concerns over abductions and extrajudicial actions by the police.
He called on security organs to strike a balance between delivering robust security responses and enabling the enjoyment of Kenyans’ rights and freedoms.
“It cannot be denied that there have been instances of excessive and extrajudicial actions by members of the security services. At the same time, it must also be acknowledged that due process is underway in appropriate institutions to ensure accountability,” he said.
