Deputy President William Ruto said yesterday that he would form a coalition of selfless leaders who are ready to put the interests of the people first were he to be elected President next year.

He said he is keen on working with like-minded leaders to implement the bottom up economic model that will empower ordinary Kenyans as opposed to power sharing political arrangements.

Ruto claimed the opposition has derailed Jubilee administration’s Big Four agenda in their selfish pursuit for leadership positions.

“This time round, we will not take a path that will put the interests of leaders ahead of the interests of the people. It is not about what leaders will get but what the people will get,”he said.

Misguided priorities

Speaking during a church service at St Joseph Catholic Church Rurii and later at Rurii MCA thanks giving ceremony at Rurii Stadium in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua county, the DP said it was unfortunate that the Jubilee Party, that was meant to unite Kenyans and transform the country, has been hijacked by individuals with misguided priorities.

Ruto said the country ought to have focused on economic recovery instead of focusing on constitutional amendments.

He urged leaders to shun tribal politics and divisive politics and join progressive Kenyans in economic transformation talks.

Election date debate

The Deputy President said the country’s politics was no longer about tribes, leaders needs and position of power but the economy and the needs of the people.

“This time round we are talking about the economy of ordinary Kenyans, the bottom up economic model that will uplift ordinary Kenyans.”

Kilifi North MP Owen Baya faulted those who claim devolution is better than the bottom-ups economic model saying the model will compliment devolution.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria urged Uhuru not to allow Opposition leaders to use him to influence the 2022 presidential election.

“Knowing who will be president after you is the duty of Kenyans,”said Kuria.

Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie faulted the opposition for conspiring to change the general election date because they are not ready to face Ruto.

He said those who are not ready for the general election should allow those who are ready to proceed and elect leaders of their choice.
