Ruto, Gachagua hold separate meetings with Murang’a grassroot leaders

President William Ruto and his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, engaged in a show of political might this Friday, September 12, 2025, by holding separate meetings with different grassroots leaders from Murang’a County.

While the head of state and his deputy, Kithure Kindiki, met with a delegation of the county’s leadership led by CS Lands Esther Wahome at State House, a separate faction allied to Ruto’s estranged former Deputy, led by Senator Joe Nyutu, was meeting with the former DP at his Wamunyoro residence

The meet-up with Gachagua included MCAs such as MCA Maurice Thuku, the majority Whip of the assembly, Kariara ward MCA Gichihi Mbatia, Steven Kimani, and Liz Mbugua of Kinyona ward and the deputy leader of the majority, among others.

Nyutu dismisses Ruto

Speaking at the function, Nyutu hit out at Ruto for his attempts to woo the people, saying they have already made up their minds on who their leader is.

“Ruto knows the needs of Murang’a people. He doesn’t have to call them to the state house for him to know their needs. He only called them to bribe them in his desperate move to move them away from Gachagua, whom they have embraced as our national leader,” he stated.

“The move of calling people to the State House will not change things. Murang’a has a population of about 1 million people, and only about four thousand have been called to State House,” he added.

Speaking during the meeting with the leaders, Gachagua urged the residents of Murang’a to take note of the true leaders, stressing that those hosted by the president at State House were serving their own selfish interests.

“These are the true leaders of the Murang’a people, and I ask the people to take note of the traitors in State House, those who are selling their people for money. They should take note and in two years elect people who can represent them and not sell their birthright,” he stated.

MCA Steven Kimani, on his part, assured the former DP of support, stating that they had refused to be bought and affirmed their allegiance to the DCP leader.

“We are here because we have refused to board a boat that was sinking. We have muranga people behind us and we are committed to follow you,” he stated.
