Ruto demands withdrawal of varsity letters over fees

President William Ruto yesterday ordered withdrawal of all admission letters issued to students without using the newly developed needs-assessment tool that will guide how much fees each learner will be
required to pay.
The President warned vice chancellors of public universities against what he said was foul play in informing students fees they are supposed to pay before enrolling to their respective colleges.
Ruto said managements of various public universities were hell-bent on manipulating students on fees they should pay in what he said was a plot to oppress those from less privileged learners.
According to Ruto, the letters he ordered to be withdrawn were wrongly drawn with universities issuing fees structures that are not specific on individual students’ ability to pay the college levies.
Admission letters
He said every learner should have a customized admission letters that best suit the financial needs of their families and the exact amount they will be required to pay in fees.
“I am asking all VCs to ensure the right letters have been issued and every parent is given information on how much their children are going to pay,” Ruto said.
While addressing various public meetings where he launched numerous development programs in various places in Kisii and Nyamira counties, the President warned against anyone who will not heed
to the new system of customizing fee structures according to the newly development
fee assessment tool.
“Those vice chancellors should be part of the solutions but not part of the problems. They should issue the right letters which we have validated with the new needs assessment tool according to financial ability.
Government policies
He also warned Vice Chancellors who were inviting students to violence as a way of countering some Government policies.
He ordered that no college administrator should withhold any information regarding fee payment for university entrants after he alleged foul play in some higher learning institutions.
The directive will apply for all Technical and Vocational Training Colleges as well as universities.
The President issued the stern warning in all venues he addressed yesterday while on his final day of the three days development tour of Gusii Region.
At Borabu in Nyamira county he addressed the residents after launching a 61-kilometres security ring road connecting Bomet, Nyamira and Narok counties.
