Ruto and Uhuru unite at JKIA to receive Raila’s remains

The Kenya Airways flight carrying Odinga’s body touched down a few minutes past 9:30 a.m., drawing large crowds of mourners, supporters, and well-wishers who had gathered to pay their respects.
The atmosphere at the airport was heavy with grief, with many people seen shedding tears while others were visibly overwhelmed by emotion. Flags and banners in tribute to the late leader adorned parts of the arrival hall.
President Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta, who have in the past had political differences, shared a rare moment of unity, underscoring the national significance of the occasion. Their presence at JKIA reflected the respect both leaders and the country hold for Raila Odinga, a towering figure in Kenya’s political landscape.
Following the arrival, the late leader’s body was scheduled to be transported to Lee Funeral Home, where further arrangements for public viewing and tributes are expected.
Supporters and onlookers maintained a solemn vigil as the casket was moved, with many expressing their gratitude for Odinga’s decades-long contribution to Kenyan democracy and public service. Security personnel and airport staff worked to ensure smooth operations, coordinating the movement of mourners while maintaining order. Despite the large turnout, the mood remained respectful and reflective, capturing the deep admiration and affection Kenyans have for the late leader.
As the nation mourns, the scenes at JKIA highlight a collective moment of remembrance, where political differences are set aside, and citizens from all walks of life come together to honour the life and legacy of Raila Odinga.
