Ruto and Raila fulfil their promises to Harambee Stars players
President William Ruto has come good on his cash rewards of Ksh2.5 million for Harambee Stars players following their win over Zambia on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Football Kenya Federation President Husein Mohammed has confirmed that the president fulfilled his pledge to the players on Monday, August 18, 2025.
KSh3 Million windfall
Mohammed confirmed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga also delivered on his pledge to reward Harambee Stars players Ksh500,000 each.
“Earlier today, I joined Sports CS Waziri_Mvurya and PS Elijah Mwangi in fulfilling the promise made by H.E. President @WilliamsRuto and Rt. Hon. @RailaOdinga, the former Prime Minister, to @Harambee__Stars players,” his statement read.

This implies that each of the Harambee Stars players took home a KSh.3 million windfall from Sunday’s final Group A clash.
Eyes on Quarterfinals
While expressing gratitude over the development, the FKF supremo stated the ball now lies with the Harambee Stars players and the technical bench as focus now shifts to the decisive quarterfinal clash against Madagascar scheduled for Friday, August 22, 2025, in Nairobi.
“Wamecheza kama wao and the boys have now vowed to cheza kama wao, this Friday in the quarterfinal against Madagascar! A big thank you to the Head of State and the Government of Kenya, especially the Ministry of Sports, for their continued support to @Football_Kenya and Kenyan football,” Hussein stated.
Following Kenya’s hard-fought win over Zambia on Sunday, Ruto visited the team afterwards and promised to fulfill what was his second promise of a financial rewards to the team following similar pledges of monetary goodies from the opening clash against DR Congo
In a bid to motivate the players, the president pledged a KSh1 million reward for the team for every single win earned in the ongoing African Nations Championship.
He followed up with a KSh2.5M promise for the team’s win that would secure progression to the next phases of the competition on Sunday.
“Congratulations, Harambee Stars! You have done the nation proud, inspired immense joy, and united our country in celebration. Now, march forward and conquer the continent. Do not settle for less , just as we, as a nation, must never settle for anything less than glory,” he said.
“As for me ,nitacheza kama mimi. After all, dawa ya deni ni kulipa,” Ruto declared, assuring players and fans alike that his pledge of Ksh2.5 million per player will be fulfilled.
