The Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD -Kenya) has called for immediate dissemination of the recently released National Dialogue Committee Report.

CMD – Kenya chairperson Priscilla Nyokabi yesterday said that they are concerned by the lack of a comprehensive and transparent dissemination plan that would ensure the report reaches a wider audience and stimulate constructive public discourse.

“The report generated from such dialogues is of paramount importance to the citizens, and therefore, it is imperative that it’s findings and recommendations are widely accessible to the public,” said Nyokabi.

Addressing journalists yesterday following meeting with secretary generals of political parties in the country called for countrywide public forums to discuss the report.

“Political parties, civil societies, private sector, religious organisations and other stakeholders should be involved in the dissemination,” added Nyokabi.

The political parties forum is also rooting for the realisation of the two -thirds gender principle, terming it a moral imperative for a democratic society that values equality, diversity, and the full participation of its citizens.

Elusive gender rule

She claimed progress in actualising the two- thirds gender principle has been slow, and the disparity in political and public representation remains a significant concern to CMD -Kenya.

The lobby urged Parliament to make proposals and expedite the enactment of legislation that clearly outlines mechanisms for achieving the two-thirds gender principle.

“Such legislation should provide concrete steps, timelines and penalties for non-compliance. We desire for implementation of electoral reforms that facilitate the nomination and election of candidates from underrepresented genders. “
