The body of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has arrived at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), where the funeral service will be held.

The body has been escorted by a military procession, with police officers on outriders in an arrowhead formation. The family is part of the convoy, accompanied by several military vehicles to ensure security. The body will cover a distance of approximately 5 kilometres to arrive at JOOUST, where the funeral will take place.

The body, which left Nairobi for Kisumu and spent the better part of Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Mamboleo Grounds before being taken to his home in the evening, is now, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, being loaded onto a gun carrier for its final journey to JOOUST. After the funeral service, the procession will proceed to Kang’o ka Jaramogi for burial.

The procession, led by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), is part of the military honours accorded to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga by the State following a proclamation by the President.

He is also set to be accorded a 19-gun salute at Kang’o ka Jaramogi.

President William Ruto is set to arrive anytime at JOOUST before the body of the former prime minister arrives there from Opoda farm.

Situation at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have now taken full control of the Kang’o ka Jaramogi Mausoleum, where former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is set to be interred.

The military, which is in charge of the funeral, is set to monitor and restrict any unauthorised access to the mausoleum, where the former prime minister will be buried beside his parents, as he had stated in his will. Only a select few, including family members, close relatives, and top government officials, will be allowed to access the area.

According to reports from the funeral steering committee, this is because the area is too small to accommodate everyone and could lead to a stampede similar to the one experienced at Kasarani Stadium.
