Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition Raila Odinga has accused Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of dividing the nation along tribal lines after his recent remarks that the government is a company where some Kenyans have more shares than others.

Speaking during the opposition’s prayer rally at Jeevanjee Grounds on Wednesday, February 22, Raila said every Kenyan has a right to get services from the national government regardless of how they voted in the last general election.

While dismissing President William Ruto’s administration as illegitimate, the former Prime Minister said the Azimio government would run an inclusive government without disenfranchising other communities.

“Ati kuna wale wako na hisa mingi zaidi wengine wako na kidogo na wengine hawana ata. Yaani yeye hatambui wewe kama mkenya manake wewe huna share katika serikali yao. Serikali yao ni yao. Serikali ya Wakenya iko na inakuja. Tumesema kama Azimio kila mkenya ni mkenya ata kama wewe hukupiga kura kwa azimio wewe ni mkenya. Kila mkenya ana haki ya kupata huduma kutoka kwa serikali kwa sababu kila mkenya anatoa ushuru kwa serikali,” Raila said to cheers from the crowd.

“Kwa hivyo serikali ya Azimio itaangalia masirahi ya wakenya wote bila kuangalia kabila.”

Gachagua had on Saturday claimed that the national government is like a limited company where those who voted for them are the biggest shareholders and must benefit first.

“Hii serikali ni kampuni na ni ya shares, kuna wenye kampuni wale wako na shares mingi…kuna wale hawana. Nyinyi mliinvest kwa hii kampuni ya Ruto na Gachagua… mliamka mapema,” Gachagua said in Kericho.

“Kwa sababu mlipanda sasa mvune… mkipanga laini kupewa kazi, mimi nitakuwa hapo kuangalia kama ulikuwa upande gani…kama wewe ulitupigia kura nakutoa nyuma nakuweka mbele.”

Meanwhile, Raila on Wednesday issued a 14-day ultimatum to the government to lower prices of basic commodities and taxes failure to which the opposition will call for mass protests across the country to force the Kenya Kwanza administration to take action.

Raila said high taxes imposed by the Kenya Kwanza administration have seen prices of basic commodities hit the roof.

Raila said the move to withdraw the subsidies in the middle of drought and famine was reckless and heartless and demanded reinstatement within two weeks.

The ODM party leader also demanded the suspension of the ongoing exercise to recruit electoral commissioners, saying the process is flawed.

“The ongoing process of reconstituting IEBC (Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission) must stop immediately. A bipartisan task force must be put in place to restructure IEBC in a manner that ends its monolithic operations,” Raila said.

“If these demands are not heeded within fourteen days, we shall lead Kenyans to massive mass action across the country to take their power back and restore sanity,” he warned.
