Raila mourns patriarch of Kajwang’ family

Several leaders, including Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, yesterday paid tribute to Mzee David Ajwang’ Nyakwamba who died yesterday.

Nyakwamba was the father of Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’,  Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang’, the late Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang’, Nakuru County MCA Peter Kajwang’ and Director of Youth Affairs at the Kisumu County Timon Kajwang’.

Raila and his wife Ida described Nyakwamba as a great cultural elder who cherished and upheld the dignity of Luo customs and traditions. 

“I am deeply saddened by his death. We shared precious moments with him,” Raila said in a tweet. 

Senator Kajwang’ announced his father’s death on his social media accounts: “The patriarch has rested. Mzee David Ajwang’ Nyakwamba. May your soul wait in peace Japuonj!” 

Nyakwamba was a long serving teacher who taught in Mbita High, Homa Bay High and Moi Gesusi High (Kisii) schools.

He was also a Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) elder. Governors Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay), Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) also paid tribute to the deceased. 

Others who condoled with the family are senators Ochillo Ayacko (Migori) and Fred Outa (Kisumu); MPs John Mbadi (Suba South), Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), Walter Owino (Awendo), Charles Ong’ondo (Kasipul), Eve Obara (Kabondo), Paul Abuor (Rongo), Jared Okello (Nyando), Rangwe’s Lilian Gogo and Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga.
