Raila hails CHAN as proof of football’s unifying spirit

In a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, August 30, 2025, Raila congratulated Morocco’s Atlas Lions for lifting the CHAN 2024 title and saluted the fans, organisers, and stakeholders who made the tournament a success.
“Congratulations to Morocco’s ‘The Atlas Lions’ on being crowned champions of CHAN 2024!” Raila declared.
Unity through football
Raila emphasised the significance of the championship beyond the results on the pitch, noting how the packed stadiums and lively atmosphere reflected football’s role as a social and cultural bridge.
“It’s been a fantastic journey, and football has once again proven its power to unite and excite!” he affirmed.
The ODM leader described the tournament as a thrilling spectacle that brought together nations, fans, and cultures through the spirit of the game.
“A big shout-out to the fans who filled the stadium with energy, to CAF, FKF, the Local Organising Committee, and all the stakeholders who made this event such a success,” he noted.
The ODM leader lauded the efforts of organisers, pointing out that the success of the tournament underscored the ability of sport to foster solidarity among diverse communities.
“What an exhilarating tournament it’s been!” he reiterated.
Morocco crowned champions
The final, played on Saturday, saw Morocco edge Madagascar 3-2 in a tightly contested clash at Kasarani International Stadium.
Madagascar, appearing in their first-ever CHAN final, took a surprise lead through Félicité Mantasoa, before Morocco equalised through Youssef Mehri and went ahead with Oussama Lamlaoui’s strike before half-time
Madagascar restored parity in the 68th minute through Toky Rakotondraibe, but Morocco sealed the win late in the second half with a decisive goal from Oussama Lamlilioui, clinching their third CHAN title.
