Raila appoints Prof Kithure Kindiki’s brother as his assistant Chief Agent

Raila Odinga on Sunday, June 5, received the green light to vie for the presidency under the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition party.
The ODM leader appeared before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) alongside his running mate Martha Karua.

Speaking at the brief function, Raila unveiled a five-member team to oversee the exercise slated for August 9.
He named lawyer Saitabu ole Kanchori as his Chief Agent.
Kanchori will be deputised by Nyeri Deputy Governor Caroline Karugu, Prof. Isaiah Wa Kindiki, ODM Executive Director Dr Oduor Ong’wen and lawyer, Paul Mwangi.
Interestingly, Isaiah is the elder brother of Tharaka Nithi Senator Prof. Kithure Kindiki who was unveiled as Deputy President William Ruto’s Chief Agent yesterday, weeks after missing out on the running mate slot.
The Kenya Kwanza presidential flag bearer and Raila are touted as front runners in the highly-charged race.
Isaiah has been a staunch supporter of the Orange party boss for some years now. Analysts say the latest appointment is likely to stir sibling rivalry in a family that now has two brothers in different major political factions ahead of the August contest.
The brothers are on record saying, in a past interview, that despite their political differences they remain very close.
“Family issues are not political. We remain brothers who have divergent ideologies,” Isaiah told a local daily.
In his role at Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza, Kithure will be assisted by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General Veronica Maina and Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok.
While unveiling the trio yesterday, Ruto said the team will work diligently to ensure that he runs the full length of the election process without hitches.
“These are the lady and gentlemen who work with you in making sure that the communication, the relationship between us as candidates and the IEBC is useful, is helpful in making sure that we run the length and breadth of this election without hitches. We are looking forward to working with you,” he said.
