Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has said the recent activities of Gen Zs have validated the need to engage the citizens on matters of governance to avoid a backlash.

Addressing the media after attending a burial ceremony at Muvuti Boys’ High School grounds in Machakos Town constituency on Friday afternoon, the County boss maintained public participation was key in enhancing public trust in matters of governance.

Surprise decision the Governor’s sentiments come in the wake of the surprise decision by President William Ruto to sack his entire Cabinet in what is believed to have been a result of pressure exerted by Gen Zs.

“The Gen Zs’ actions are a wake-up call to all leaders that carrying out public participation exercises is critical before implementing certain development programs or decisions.

It is always important to get the views of the citizens while making decisions that affect them,” said the Machakos Governor.

Invoking her popular culture of engaging Machakos citizens to identify various development priorities in the county’s budget-making process, Wavinya said it was only through such that citizens develop confidence in leadership and own the projects.

“Some people said I was wasting public resources when I went round collecting views from the members of the public regarding their development priorities.

That is not a waste of resources. It is respecting people’s views,” she said.
