PS Raymond Omollo says Nyanza has received projects worth Ksh220B under Ruto govt
By Viola Kosome, May 22, 2026Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has defended President William Ruto’s administration, saying the current government has demonstrated unprecedented commitment to equitable development across the country, with the Nyanza region benefiting from projects worth more than Ksh220 billion.
Speaking during the burial ceremony of Nyando MP Jared Okello’s mother on Friday, May 22, 2026, Omollo said the government had intentionally invested heavily in counties that had for years lagged behind in national development projects.
According to the PS, the counties of Siaya County, Kisumu County, Homa Bay County, and Migori County have collectively received projects worth over Ksh220 billion under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“For the first time we are seeing such a huge amount of investment, and it speaks to the leadership of President William Ruto, and it is very deliberate,” Omollo said.
Stalled projects
He noted that several road projects that had stalled for years are now progressing, with contractors already back on site and construction works ongoing in different parts of the region.
The PS argued that the renewed infrastructure push was evidence that the current administration was committed to transforming every part of the country, regardless of political affiliation or ethnic background.
Omollo further highlighted reforms in the education sector, saying the government had made significant strides in addressing the shortage of teachers across the country.
He said President Ruto’s administration had already employed 100,000 teachers in less than three years, with plans underway to recruit an additional 20,000 teachers.
“If we were to do it the way it used to be done in previous administrations, it could have taken more than 20 years to achieve that. But in three years we will have a testament that there is something significant happening not just in this country but across the republic,” he said.

The Interior PS maintained that Kenya was now witnessing leadership that embraces inclusivity and national unity rather than favouring specific regions.
According to Omollo, the current administration had moved away from the culture where development projects and government appointments were concentrated in the president’s home region.
“We have a president who is not only developing the region he comes from or employing people from his community but from the whole nation,” he said.
He pointed to his own appointment as Interior PS as an example of the administration’s commitment to regional balance and inclusivity in government.
“That is why today I am the PS in charge of Internal Security, and we also have ministers from this region as well as an Attorney General for the first time,” he stated.
Omollo added that the spirit of inclusion was being witnessed across all parts of the country, including the Coast, North Eastern, Central Kenya and Nyanza regions.
Omollo’s appeal to Oburu
During his address, the PS also called on veteran opposition leader Oburu Oginga to continue providing leadership not only to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party but also to the larger Luo community.
He said leaders from the region were ready to rally behind Oburu Oginga as he steers the party and the community during a critical political transition period.
“As a son of this community, I want to give you my confidence and comfort that together with the rest of the leaders from this region, we will give you unwavering support as you continue to lead this community and the ODM party,” Omollo said.

The remarks come at a time when political realignments continue to shape the country’s political landscape ahead of the next General Election.
Omollo expressed confidence that the people of Nyanza would eventually support President Ruto’s re-election bid, saying the region was already witnessing the impact of government projects and development initiatives.
“I have no doubt that when the country goes for elections next year, the people of Nyanza will join the rest of the country in re-electing President Ruto so that he continues transforming the Republic of Kenya,” he said.
