ODM Mombasa retreat

The development comes as ODM concludes its Mombasa retreat, from where it has outlined a strategic path to form Kenya’s next government in 2027, either alone or via coalition, with emphasis on party renewal, candidate scouting, and fair nominations.

In a press statement released on Monday, May 4, 2026, after the conclusion of the party retreat in Mombasa County, ODM announced the party’s commitment to forming the government in 2027.

“It is the strategic and practical plan of ODM to form the next government either alone or as part of the coalition that forms that government in 2027. These dreams remain valid and remain ours,” ODM said.

In the resolution, the secretariat has been tasked with youth and women leadership development, activating university chapters, voter registration drives, AI integration, affordable data advocacy, and fast-tracking compensation for police brutality victims.

According to the report, ODM has vowed to retain the dream to create jobs for the youth, make the government take care of the poor, the widows and the vulnerable, while also raising the upkeep for the elderly from the current Ksh2000 to Ksh6000 per month.

“ODM still believes in change and reform. Over the decades, we have fought for change and reform from the streets through protests and endless demonstrations. ODM was not formed to seek to form government from the streets, but through democratic means. The time for this is now,” ODM said.
