PS Omollo warns police officers aiding illegal drug trade
Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary (PS) has warned police officers aiding drug business in the country.
Speaking during the launch of National Survey Report on Status of Drugs and Substance Use in Kenya 2022 in Nairobi, PS Omollo said the government will take decisive action against any police officer who will be found to be colluding with culprits.
“I want to make it very clear that we will not hesitate to take decisive action against any of them who will be found to be colluding with culprits.
“And for avoidance of doubt, we send a strong warning to any law enforcement officers who may be involved in this illegal trade: your actions will not be tolerated, and you will be held personally accountable for your betrayal of the public trust,” he said.
PS Omollo county governments’ role
The PS also called on county governments who have been vested with the role of liquor licensing to initiate prevention programs and support the work of national government officers in enhancing compliance to relevant laws at the county level.
“As you can remember, our Cabinet Secretary announced in February that government administrators (NGAOs) and senior police officers will have specific crime-reduction goals set for them as a long-term strategy to improve the productivity of their tasks in security management.
“Our intention is to establish a reward programme for top performers with a view to incentivizing the war against illicit brews and drug abuse at the grassroots,” he added.
