Angry protesters storm Kabete MP Githua Wamacukuru’s office demanding his resignation
A team of anti-Finance Bill 2024 protesters on Monday, June 24, 2024, stormed Kabete Member of Parliament (MP) James Githua Wamacukuru’s constituency office after he voted in favour of the bill last week.
In videos seen by People Daily Digital, the protesters who were in large numbers are heard calling for the lawmaker’s resignation.
Wamacukuru betrayal
The youthful protesters viewed Wamacukuru as a betrayer over his support for the bill which they have termed as punitive.
“Githua must go…Githua must go…” they are heard chanting as they marched through the streets of Wangige town.
Wamacukuru, however, is not the only victim of the protests dubbed ‘7 days of rage’ that kicked off on Friday, June 21, 2024.
Nyali MP’s office stormed
Another group of anti-Finance Bill protesters on Monday stormed the office of Nyali MP Mohamed Ali to express their dissatisfaction over the MP’s alleged failure to declare a stand on the Finance Bill 2024.
Mohamed Ali alias Moha Jicho Pevu was absent at the National Assembly when his counterparts were voting for the Finance Bill 2024.
The youthful group marched to his Nyali office seeking answers on whether he supported the bill or not.
However, the gate to the MP’s office was locked and the protesters were not allowed access.
Malava MP’s office
In Malava, Kakamega County, a group of protesters stormed the area MP Malulu Injendi’s office to call him out for voting in favour of the Finance Bill 2024.
After failing to get him at the office, they stormed a meeting in Kakamega organized by Kakamega County Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda, hoping to find their MP there.
On Friday, June 21, 2024, activist Boniface Mwangi issued a 7-day protest schedule to be observed by the protesters up to Thursday this week.
The protesters were today (Monday, June 24, 2024) expected to storm and occupy constituency offices for all the MPs who supported the Finance Bill 2024 in parliament last week.
The protesters, according to the schedule, are also supposed to call for the resignation of their MPs, including the collection of signatures for their recall if they fail to resign.
Churches occupied
On Sunday, June 23, 2024, the protesters occupied churches and called for a total rejection of the bill.
They also forced the clergy to deny politicians the opportunity to speak.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was a victim of this, when his efforts to call politicians to the podium at a church event attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nyahururu, bore no fruits.
