Property dispute takes different turn for family
The succession dispute over the sharing of the Sh3 billion estate of former AIC church evangelist Edward Limo took a new dimension yesterday after the feuding family members asked the court to give them time to settle the matter out of court dialogue.
This follows an application filed before Justice Reuben Nyakundi by the late tycoon’s daughter in-law Ruth Limo through her lawyer Karen Chesoo.
Ruth is wife to Joseph who is a deceased son of the late Limo.
The lawyer informed the court that the deceased family members wanted to give dialogue a chance in unlocking the decade-long dispute over the sharing of the deceased’s multi-billion shillings estate.
Chesoo informed the court that the family members desired to try the mediation route to resolve the matter to enable all the beneficiaries get their share of the estate that was left behind by the deceased.
The disputed estate is located outside Eldoret town along the busy Eldoret – Eldama Ravine highway in Uasin Gishu county.
“My client Ruth desires to have the family meet out of court so that they can try to resolve the contentious issues in this dispute and if possible unlock the whole succession case as concerns the estate,” stated Chesoo.
The estate includes prime agricultural land located within Eldoret town measuring more than 700 acres.
According to the court documents, properties on the land include the African Inland Church (AIC) institutions among them Kao la Amani church and Kao la Amani Bible College.
The late Mzee Limo had also donated a section of his land to some of the institutions before his death.
Other investments on the Limo farm are a private hospital, two high end private learning institutions, namely Concord Boys and Concord Girls High schools.
Limo died on December 13, 2017.
He was a prominent personality in the region and a close friend of former President the late Daniel Arap Moi.
He had 10 children including three boys and seven girls but six of them have since passed on.
Chesoo said they would report back to court in two weeks after the mediation process.
