Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA) have expressed full support for the implementation of the Competency-based Curriculum.

Speaking to the press at Kerugoya Municipality Boarding Primary School, the association’s vice Chairman Solomon Munene noted that the curriculum is the best gift by the government to Kenyan children.

He noted that there are some issues that need to be addressed in order to ensure smooth delivery of the curriculum.

“Though there are CBC implementation challenges, we should not throw away and kill the child with its birth water. CBC is like a baby that is striving to walk on its feet but we are not letting the baby walk. Let the child walk on its feet. CBC will be okay, maybe not today, but it will,” he said

Solomon, also said that the association was behind Ruto’s idea of establishing a taskforce to look into and review the curriculum.

“KPSA is therefore in full support of the Presidential initiative to establish the Education Reform taskforce,” he said.

The Association’s vice chairman urged politicians not to involve politics in the CBC debate for the sake of future generations.

“For the sake of our children, let’s not politicize CBC,” he said.

He pointed out that the implementation of the new education curriculum has reached a point of no return since grade six pupils are about to transition to Junior Secondary next year.

He also expressed concern over the scrapping of the curriculum noting that the private sector already invested millions in the preparation of the transition of pupils to Junior Secondary.

The latest development comes at a time when some parents have been complaining about the implementation of the curriculum pointing out the financial burden it lays on their shoulders a claim Munene dismissed stating that its implementation is not as expensive as it has been expressed by some members of the public.

“It is false to claim that CBC is for the rich. Rather, CBC is for all children and mainly seeks to unleash the potential in every child by focusing on their competencies as opposed to exams and high grades,” he said.
