President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday banned the sale of alcoholic beverages in restaurants and eateries within Kenyan territories for the next month as a measure to curb Covid-19 spread. He further reduced the closing time for restaurants from 8 pm to 7 pm.

The President was delivering his tenth state of the nation’s address after an Extra-Ordinary Session of the National & County Governments Coordinating Summit Monday morning.

“Effective midnight, there shall be no sale of alcoholic beverages in eateries and restaurants across the territories of the republic of Kenya for the next 30 days,” said President Kenyatta.

For the bars that are still operating against the law, the President ordered the Inspector General of Police to permanently revoke their licenses.

The Head of State also directed the IG to arrest all politicians flouting rules on gathering.

Also, the Head of State directed the Police Service to enforce social gathering rules especially on funeral. The Ministry directed funerals not to exceed 15(fifteen) mourners.

For the dusk to dawn curfew, the President extended it by a further 30 days saying the coronavirus cases have kept on increasing.
