President Uhuru Kenyatta has named George Opondo Ooko as the chairperson of the Kenyatta National Hospital Board.

In a gazette notice shared, the Head of State announced that the appointment of Ooko, which was renewed for another three-year term, took effect from Friday, May 27, 2022.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(1)(a) of the State Corporations Act and section 2(2)(a) of the Kenyatta National Hospital Board Order, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, re-appoint George Opondo Ooko to be the Chairperson of the Kenyatta National Hospital Board, for a period of three years, with effect from the 27th May 2022,” the president said in a Gazette Notice.

Ooko has recently served in the same office between April 21, 2020, and May 2, 2022, following the firing of former Rarieda Member of Parliament Nicholas Gumbo.

He boasts of experience spanning 40 years following his background in finance and management.

Between 2007 and 2011, he served as the CEO of the Coffee Development Fund, he has also worked at NIC Bank and Barclays Bank as CEO.

Prior to his first appointment as chairperson of the Kenyatta National Hospital Board, he served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).

Ooko holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s of Business Administration.

President announces other appointments

LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority Board is now under new leadership following the appointment of Titus Ibui as the chairperson.

His appointment was announced by President Kenyatta in the May 27, 2022, Kenya Gazette.

The first-in-command also announced the re-appointment of Engineer Joshua Toro as the chairperson of the National Irrigation Authority Board for a period of three years.
