Power outage to hit parts of 6 counties on Monday, September 22
By Faith Lagat, September 21, 2025Kenya Power has announced a planned power maintenance exercise on Monday, September 22, 2025, which will affect parts of six counties across the country.
In a statement issued on X on Sunday, September 21, 2025, the utility company detailed the areas and timeframes that will be impacted by the scheduled outages.
“Please find the areas on scheduled power maintenance for 22/09/2025,” read part of the notice.

Central Rift and North Rift regions
In the Central Rift Region, parts of Kericho County will experience a blackout from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The affected area, Londian, includes Londian Township, Baration, Nukiati, Kipsiricheti, Tulyobei Market, Londian Sub-District Hospital, Black Tulips Farm Cheres, Kapkondo, Jagor, and surrounding customers.
Parts of Bomet County, specifically the Koiwa Market and Sotit Market areas, will also face an outage during the same hours. This will affect Rorok Tea Factory, Kobel Tea Factory, Siono EPZ Tea Factory, Cheptalal, Taboino, Kitala, Kimarwandi, Embomos, Bosto, Satiet, Kaptebengwet, Kiptenden, and nearby customers.
In the North Rift Region, parts of Nandi County will be affected between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The blackout will impact the Emrock Tea Factory area, including Himaki, Lelwak, Kogamei, and adjacent customers.
Western, Mt. Kenya and Coast Regions
In the Western Region, parts of Kakamega County, specifically Matete and Mbande areas, will be affected from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The outage will include Matete, Mbande, Matsakha, Chebwai, Lueshe, Butali Sugar, Shivanga, Tombo, Butali Market, Namaranja, Namagara, Cereal Board, and nearby customers.
The Mt. Kenya Region will also see power interruptions. Parts of Nyeri County, including Kirurumi and Gatumbiro areas, will be affected from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Locations include Wandumbi, Gatumbiro Market and School, Huhoini, Gaithuri Market, Kinyungu TBC, TEWASCO Water Plant, Kirurumi Dispensary, Gathathini Secondary, Wagatu TBC, and surrounding customers.
In the Coast Region, parts of Taita Taveta County will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Chakaleri and Kizima areas, affecting Landi Market, Chakaleri, NYS Mgeno, Mzwanenyi, Mwautunge, Kizima, Msisienyi, Majengo Singila, and adjacent customers. Additionally, the entire Mwarangini area will be without power during the same hours, impacting Mwaranginyi, Godoma, Mwemba, and nearby customers.

Kenya Power’s statement provided a detailed list of the affected locations to ensure customers are informed in advance of the scheduled maintenance. The utility company regularly carries out maintenance to improve service delivery and network reliability.
