Police seize 70 litres of chang’aa in Uasin Gishu crackdown

Police officers in Uasin Gishu have intensified their operations against the production and distribution of illegal substances, resulting in a successful seizure in Turbo Sub-County.

During a targeted operation at the Jua-Kali Centre, law enforcement officers recovered approximately 70 litres of chang’aa from suspected dealers.

According to the National Police Service report on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, several individuals were arrested during the raid for offences related to the possession of illicit brew and other drug-related violations.

“During an operation conducted in the Jua-Kali Centre area of Turbo Sub-County, officers recovered approximately 70 litres of chang’aa from several suspected dealers. A number of persons of interest were arrested for offences related to the possession of illicit brew and other drug-related violations,” NPS said.

Police custody

The NPS stated that the persons of interest are currently in police custody, awaiting arraignment, while the seized alcohol has been secured as evidence

The recovered alcohol has been secured by authorities to be used as exhibits in the upcoming legal proceedings.

“The persons of interest have been placed in police custody pending their arraignment in court, while the recovered illicit alcohol has been secured as exhibits,” NPS said in a statement.

This raid is part of a broader, sustained campaign by the National Police Service to eliminate illicit brews and narcotics. The service emphasised that these substances continue to pose a serious threat to public health, safety, and social stability.

“The operation is part of the National Police Service’s sustained crackdown on illicit brews and narcotics, which continue to pose a serious threat to public health, safety, and social stability,” NPS added.

Authorities are calling on members of the community to support these enforcement efforts. Residents can report suspicious activities anonymously through emergency numbers.

“Members of the public are encouraged to support law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities through the emergency numbers 999, 911, or 112, or via the #FichuaKwaDCI toll-free line on 0800 722 203 and WhatsApp number 0709 570 000,” NPS said.
