Police recover 2 illegal firearms in Isiolo crackdown

The National Police Service have recovered two illegal firearms following an operation in Isiolo North Sub-County.

In a statement on the official NPS X account on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the Officers announced that the rifles were voluntarily surrendered on Monday, April 13, 2026.

According to the officers, two residents from the Lowangila area surrendered an AK-47 and a G3 rifle to the National Police Service in Isiolo North Sub-County.

“Members of the public continue to respond positively to the ongoing ‘Operation Dumisha Usalama”. Yesterday, 13th April 2026, two residents of the Lowangila area voluntarily surrendered an AK-47 and a G3 rifle to the National Police Service in Isiolo North Sub-County,” NPS stated.

The Officers confirmed that the surrendered firearms, magazines, and ammunition have been securely kept in the station armoury pending further police action.

At the same time, the National Police Service has commended members of the public for their continued cooperation in this security operation while urging members of the public still in possession of illegal items to surrender them.

“We urge anyone still in possession of illegal weapons to take advantage of the current amnesty period and surrender them to the nearest police station,” NPS added.

NPS has maintained that the Operation Dumisha Usalama remains active as the officers work together with the public to eliminate illegal firearms in the region.

Turkana operation

The recovery mission in Isiolo County comes days after the National Police Service recovered five illegal firearms voluntarily surrendered by five people in Turkana County.

In a statement by the National Police Service on the official X account on Saturday, April 11, 2026, the National Police Service announced that the multi-agency team spearheading the peaceful disarmament exercise in the region.

In the recovery, which was done on Friday, April 10, 2026, the officers noted that they recorded significant progress following the voluntary surrender of illegal firearms by five individuals.

“A multi-agency team spearheading the peaceful disarmament exercise in Turkana County yesterday recorded significant progress following the voluntary surrender of illegal firearms by five individuals,” NPS said.

The five firearms surrendered were rifles of various models and several rounds of ammunition.

On the other hand, the officers acknowledged that through sustained sensitisation campaigns, NGAO officers continue to promote awareness of the dangers associated with illegal firearm possession.

Also, the NGAO officers have played a pivotal role in dispelling fears of reprisal and encouraging individuals in possession of such weapons to surrender them willingly as part of a broader peace-building agenda.
