Police raid Kitui drug den, seize bhang and arrest person of interest
The National Police Service (NPS) has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking after officers raided a drug den in Kitui County, recovering a large consignment of bhang and arresting a person of interest.
In a statement shared on X on Friday, April 3, 2026, police stated that the operation was triggered by intelligence from members of the public, leading to a coordinated multi-agency response targeting an area believed to be a drug packaging site in the Ngiini area.
“Acting on a tip-off, officers from Kitui Police Station, in a joint operation with officials from the NACADA, Nairobi Headquarters, yesterday, 2nd April 2026, successfully raided a drug packaging den in the Ngiini area near Kitui Town,” the statement reads.
Authorities went on to describe the scale of the recovery, stating that 35 kg of cannabis was found, pointing to the quantity of drugs found and the extent to which the illegal business had been organised for distribution.

“The multi-agency team conducted a thorough search of the premises, arrested one suspect, and recovered a substantial consignment of Cannabis Sativa (bhang) in various containers weighing approximately 35kg and 5,600 ready-to-sell rolls,” the statement reads.

Police further outlined additional items recovered at the scene, including a digital weighing machine, among other items, indicating that the location was being used not just for storage but also for processing and packaging the drugs before sale.
“In addition to the drugs, the officers recovered a digital weighing machine, rolling papers, and various plastic basins and sieves used in the processing and packaging of the illegal substance,” the statement reads.
Officers also confirmed that the immediate action was taken against the persons of interest, noting that legal procedures had already begun as investigations continue into possible wider networks behind the operation.
