Police nab 2 in Malindi, recover Ksh6M worth of bhang

The National Police Service (NPS) has recovered 200 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of Ksh6 million during an intelligence-led operation in the Thalatha Meli area of Malindi Sub-County, Kilifi County.

Writing on X on Thursday, July 2, 2026, the National Police Service noted that the officers raided a residential house following intelligence reports, where they found two persons of interest. The police noted that a thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of five gunny bags containing dry plant material suspected to be cannabis.

“National Police Service officers have recovered 200 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of Ksh6 million during an intelligence-led operation conducted in the Thalatha Meli area of Malindi Sub-County, Kilifi County,” NPS stated.

The recovered substance was weighed and confirmed to have a total weight of 200 kilograms. The two persons of interest were taken into custody and, together with the recovered narcotics, escorted to Malindi Police Station.

“During the operation, officers raided a residential house where two suspects were found. A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of five gunny bags containing dry plant material suspected to be cannabis. The recovered substance was weighed and found to have a total weight of 200 kilograms,” NPS added.

Persons of interest to be arraigned in court

Police said the two remain in custody as investigations continue ahead of their arraignment in court.

“The two suspects were arrested and, together with the recovered exhibits, escorted to Malindi Police Station, where they remain in custody pending further investigations and subsequent arraignment in court,” the statement added.

The National Police Service commended members of the public for providing timely information that contributed to the successful operation, noting that community cooperation remains crucial in the fight against crime.

Authorities have urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities through the nearest police station or anonymously via the toll-free numbers, the hotline, or WhatsApp.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to combating the trafficking and distribution of narcotic drugs, saying they will continue pursuing those involved in the illegal trade and ensuring they are brought to justice.
