Police intensify crackdown on illicit brews and narcotic drugs in Kibra
Officers from the National Police Service have intensified a crackdown on illicit brews and narcotic drugs in Nairobi, Kibra Sub-County, following an operation conducted in the Makina area.
In a statement released on Monday, December 29, 2025, the NPS confirmed that officers have apprehended four persons of interest and recovered three bales of suspected cannabis sativa. A motor vehicle believed to have been used to transport the drugs was also seized.
Getting rid of illicit substances
”The suspects have been placed in custody pending processing and arraignment in court. The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to combating the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs, which continue to pose a serious threat to public safety and community well-being,” the statement said in part.
This comes shortly after the NPS officers at Shaurimoyo Police Station, Buruburu Sub-County, on Saturday, December 27, 2025, seized 800 litres of illicit brew (chang’aa) following a targeted operation in the Majengo slums regarding the illicit alcohol trade.

According to the NPS statement issued on Sunday, December 28, 2025, the officers raided a suspected den, successfully seizing the prohibited liquor, which had been concealed in polythene bags.
The statement further revealed that one person of interest was apprehended and placed in police custody, awaiting arraignment. The NPS also communicated its commitment to dismantling illegal alcohol networks that pose both health and security risks to the public.
”This operation reaffirms the National Police Service’s unwavering commitment to sustaining the crackdown on illicit brews and related criminal activities, to dismantle illegal alcohol networks, and to protect the public from the dangers posed by the illicit liquor trade,” the statement read in part.
Cannabis seized in Kakamega
Meanwhile, in their renewed war against narcotics, NPS officers in Kakamega County recently recorded a significant success in the fight against narcotic drugs following an intelligence-led operation conducted along the Kisumu-Kakamega Road.
In a statement released on Monday, December 22, 2025, the Police Service announced that a search of a public service vehicle intercepted by the officers led to the recovery of a large consignment of dry green plant material suspected to be Cannabis sativa.
The narcotics were concealed in several bags and a sack, packaged into multiple bales, with a total weight of approximately 48 kilograms and an estimated street value of Ksh1.4 million.
