Police intensify crackdown on illicit brew in Nakuru, Murang’a, Kiambu and Kirinyaga
Police officers, in collaboration with National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), have nabbed nine men found in possession of bhang in a multi-county operation.
In a statement by the National Police Service on Friday, April 24, 2026, the officers confirmed that the coordinated intelligence-led operations targeted illicit brews and narcotic drugs across several counties.
Among the counties listed by the National Police Service were Murang’a, Nakuru, Kiambu, and Kirinyaga.
“Police officers, in collaboration with National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), yesterday conducted coordinated intelligence-led operations targeting illicit brews and narcotic drugs across several counties, including Murang’a, Nakuru, Kiambu, and Kirinyaga,” NPS said.
The operations were carried out through targeted interventions within identified hotspots. In Kandara, Murang’a County, officers from Muruka Police Station apprehended one person of interest who was found in possession of 62 rolls of bhang concealed in his clothing.
Another operation within Karagita in Naivasha led to the arrest of two persons of interest found in possession of 86 rolls of bhang, approximately 500 grams of cannabis sativa, and related paraphernalia.
In Kiambu County, officers conducting patrols in Gatundu South arrested a person found in possession of 12 rolls of bhang concealed in a cigarette packet.
Meanwhile, in another chilling encounter, officers at Kinoo arrested another suspect while selling bhang to members of the public, and he was found with 26 rolls of the substance.

According to the Police report, Murang’a County recorded additional arrests, where officers apprehended two more suspects found with a total of 39 rolls of bhang in Gatanga. In Kirinyaga County, operations conducted within the Ngurubani area resulted in the arrest of two suspects found in possession of a total of 15 rolls of bhang.
NPS confirmed that all persons of interest were taken into custody pending arraignment before the respective courts, while the recovered narcotics were secured and preserved as exhibits.
“These coordinated operations demonstrate the continued commitment of the National Police Service to curb the proliferation of illicit brews and narcotic drugs. The crackdown is ongoing, reinforcing a sustained and resolute war against drugs to protect communities and maintain public safety,” NPS stated.
